5 valid reasons to work from home

A lot of you are looking for answers when it comes to working from home—specifically, valid reasons to work from home—and to be honest, there are a lot of great reasons.

Working from home can be amazing in so many ways—whether it’s to avoid the commute, to take time to recharge, or for a change in scenery, the benefits of working from home are honestly endless.

If your employer has yet to be convinced on the perks of remote work, try taking these valid reasons to work from home to their desk.

Why would you want to work from home? Well...

1. You can take care of your health.

There are a number of ways working from home can be excellent for your health. It heightens happiness, lowers stress, increases safety, and leads to greater life satisfaction.

This alone, in my opinion, is reason enough. But let’s keep going, for fun!

2. There are fewer distractions. (File under: get stuff done)

From the friendly water cooler chats to the upbeat music coming from your colleague's computer, distractions in the office are hard to avoid. Working from home makes it easier to concentrate and fully focus on your tasks for the day.

In fact, a two-year Stanford study found that employees who work from home are 13% more productive compared to their in-office co-workers. So, go ahead, tell your boss you got this because working from home makes your productivity soar!

3. Your schedule, your rules! (see: eat all the lunch tuna you want)

Working from home is infinitely more flexible than going into the office. If you’re the type of person who tends to be more productive at night, or adversely, way early in the morning, then working from home allows you to put in your 8 hours without starting promptly at 9 am.

Also, if you need that midday yoga class to get your creativity flowing, working from home allows you the freedom in your schedule to do what you need to do (and not feel guilty about it). In return, you’re a better employee because of it.

4. More respect for your time and the time of your co-workers.

When you’re in the office, you have the luxury of popping over at any given moment to ask Marshall about a redesign or Carey about finances.

Although that’s an incredible perk of working in the office, while you’re at home, instead of a quick “hey!”, you need to call, write, or schedule a meeting. In the process, you become more precise in your thoughts or questions and end up saving time for both parties.👏

Not to mention, your co-worker's music becomes a bit more endearing when you’re allowed to take a break by working from home.

5. You can recharge. 💫

Although there are no palm trees or fancy drinks (unless all of your decorations are from Target's home & garden section), working from home can feel like a vacation.

It allows you to recharge, spend more time with family, and, according to a study conducted by The University of Minnesota, it majorly helps to avoid burnout.

Plus, at home, you can wear whatever you want. *rushes to grab an oversized sweatshirt and fuzzy socks*.

There are so many valid reasons to support working from home that it’s be a no-brainer for both you and your manager to agree on a more flexible policy. Overall, it allows you the flexibility to be more purposeful, happier, and more productive in your work life.

Next steps: Ask yourself why you really want to work from home, (better balance? More time for your family? A more creative environment?), then use this post to support your argument. You’ve got this!
